Garden Inspirations and Decorating Ideas

Posted on April 23, 2012 at 6:25 AM

My green thumb is ready to come out of hibernation! Is yours? We just had a beautiful spring weekend here in Seattle and now I'm ready to pull on the gardening gloves and dig in to some soil.

Below are a few ideas I love as well as some garden-inspired decorating ideas to bring inside the house.

Vertical Herb Garden in a Shoe Caddy

From Birds and Blooms

Great solution for small spaces and taking advantage of walls that get a lot of sunlight. I have a back porch that this would look nicely on and have easy access to fresh herbs while cooking.

Garden Rolodex

So easy to forget what is planted where! And I never want to throw away the info packets that seeds and starter plants come with because I know I'll have a question about one of my flowers in the middle of summer. Perfect way to keep all the information together and within easy reach.

Garden Centerpiece

From Roommates Peel and Stick

Planter boxes make great centerpieces because they cover the length of a table and are low enough for conversations without being intrusive. I think it'd be sweet to have individually planted flowers inside each planter (opposed to a filled one), but the options are plenty. And when the party is over, the planter can go back outside in the sunshine. Lovely!

Pinwheel Planters

From The Celebration Shoppe

Add these to the garden centerpieces above! Very sweet to add guests initials and/or names to each pinwheel for nametags. Or skip the names and put herbs in each pot with their names on each pinwheel.  I love the motion and color these bring to a table, too.

Spring Wreath

From Rhythm of the Home

Easy and pretty! Create a seasonal wreath featuring garden delights from a magazine or book. A second-hand book is a good choice, especially if the pages feature the same types of images. Follow the link above to see the tutorial. This will hang nicely on the front door, inside the kitchen or even out on a garden shed.

ahhh tulips are my favorite flower...what a beautiful display. And I am totally loving the herb garden shoe caddy...i suppose it wouldn't matter if the water leaks out a bit when you water as long as its outside? so cool. I definitely want to start an herb garden soon, it's on my "foodie bucket list" haha. and YES! I do have a facebook page...it's facebook.com/mangiabella - thank you so much for stopping by on my SITS day...much love sweet bella

Oh I just want to do all of these. Adorable. And here's a laugh for you: here in Texas, it's almost time to STOP planting. Yes, we've had a fabulous winter and spring of gardening, but it's about to get very hot and that's when we take a break.

Living in Northern California, it's definitely time to start planting. I started last week and will finish this weekend. I love the shoe holder idea!

I can't wait to plant too! I actually just moved from Seattle to Oregon a month ago, and it is just starting to turn into spring here. :) Stopping by from SITS.
